Requirements for legal residence in Uruguay
If you have made the decision to come to Uruguay to live, work, invest, study, or visit and you need to apply and be approved for Legal Residence, you will be requested to present the following documents issued in your country of origin:
- Birth certificate legalized by the Uruguayan Consulate in country of origin.
- Marriage certificate legalized by the Uruguayan Consulate in country of origin.
- Certificate of Good Behavior legalized by the Uruguayan Consulate in country of origin. Important note: If the client has lived in a country different to his country of nationality for the past 5 years, a certificate of good behavior from both countries will be required. Both certificates will have to be legalized by the Uruguayan Consulate of each country respectively. If the client left his/her country of nationality before turning 18 years old, only the certificate of good behavior form where he/she lived for the last 5 years will be required.
- Vaccination certificate with Tetanus inoculation
- Income Certificate. The client will have to present proof of monthly income in order to be eligible for legal residence in Uruguay. Important note: Owning a property in Uruguay or a bank account will not be sufficient.
- Papanicolaou Health Exam (only applies to 21 year old women and older) done not Langer than 6 month before the trip to Uruguay. This is mandatory to issue the Health Certificate.
- Mammography Health Exam Health Exam (only applies to 40 year old women and older) done not Langer than 6 month before the trip to Uruguay. This is mandatory to issue the Health Certificate.
- 4 Pictures.
Important:
The following documents must be sent to Uruguay at least 40 days before the client’s arrival by post or courier:
- Birth certificate legalized by the Uruguayan Consulate in country of origin.
- Marriage certificate legalized by the Uruguayan Consulate in country of origin
- Passport photocopy
Tentative agenda in Uruguay:
- Day 1: Arrival
- Day 2: Meeting at Lares Office or Hotel (reception of documents)
- Day 3: Health Certificate (see requirements)
- Day 10: Meeting at Migrations Office to start Residence File
Lares offers three packages:
- Basic: Euro 400
The client has all necessary documents including an address in Uruguay and income proof.
- Plus: Euro 500
The client has all necessary documents and the income proof but needs an address in Uruguay. This package is designed for people who do not live in Uruguay yet and need an extra service such an address.
- VIP: Euro 1.000
For special cases which are not included within the standard service achievements.
Notes:
- Each appointment will take at least 1 hour approximately.
- The first cedula issued will be a “provisional cedula” until the “Legal Residence” is approved. In some cases, if an unexpected delay takes place (it is important to take into consideration that public offices are unpredictable and delays do occur), there might not be time enough to issue this first cedula. This is not an important matter in the process of the residence file.
- Once the “Legal Residence” is approved, the cedula will have to be re issued. This new cedula will be valid for a period of three years and after this, it will be necessary to renew it again for another three years (this will involve a new procedure at the immigration office, similar to requesting a new identity card and not so complex as the initial process).
